Pre-Interview Jitters

Summary: Lucifer is nervous on the day of Charlie’s interview for her new hotel. His lover, Alastor, takes notice and comforts him. This story is under the pretense that Luci is a good father who cares about Charlie.

Pairing: Alastor x Lucifer

Category: Fluff, Slight Angst

Lucifer paced back and forth uncomfortably in his living room. He was gently applying pressure to his temples with his fingertips, his face scrunched slightly in pain, and he groaned subtly. His heart was hammering in his chest and he had to take deep breaths in order to get enough air. The room felt exceptionally hot, despite being in hell, and every few moments he had to plop himself down on the couch to refrain from fainting.

One of those moments was now. A spell of weightlessness hit him like a wave and he violently sat down, the couch groaning in protest.

Seconds after sitting down, Alastor, the infamous radio demon, walked into the room.

“Darling, I’m home!” The deer demon exclaimed in a cheery singsong voice.

Lucifer only whined louder in pain. This caused Alastor to immediately eye him up and down with worry. Removing his red blazer and setting his microphone aside, he carefully approached Lucifer.

“What’s wrong, dear? Are you alright?-”

“Of COURSE I’M NOT ALRIGHT!”

Before Luci could stop himself, he lashed out. Fire engulfed him for a few split seconds and his true demon form appeared in his place, eyes burning red in fury.

Alastor jumped back at least five steps in shock and slight fear. Luci had never been this touchy before. Seeing his widened, fearful eyes, Lucifer was immediately filled with shame.

“I… I’m sorry, love. I just…” The king sighed sadly. “I’m just very stressed right now… I shouldn’t have snapped, love. Really, I’m sorry…” He placed his head in his hands and dragged his fingers through his ruffled blond hair.

Alastor gathered himself, taking a few breaths to calm down, and once again, with slight weariness, stepped toward his lover.

“Why are you so stressed, Luci? Has something bad happened?”

“…No, not yet.”

Confused, Alastor tilted his head and sat down beside him. “Please elaborate.”

Sighing heavily, Lucifer stood up from his place and began to pace again.

“It’s my little Charlie’s interview today. She’s pitching her crazy idea for that hotel she’s been talking about nonstop! And to make things worse, she’s doing it on PUBLIC television!” He groans exasperated. “Oh, Alastor. As much as I love her, you know how insane this hotel gimmick is, right? She’s going to be absolutely HUMILIATED in front of the entirety of Hell! These damned demons have absolutely NO respect for her despite her status! And it can only go terribly with that lowlife bitch ‘Katie Killjoy’ hosting the whole thing!”

Luci didn’t bother holding back his sneer as he hissed out Killjoy’s name. To be frank, he didn’t like the woman. And it truly enraged him to know that the pathetic hell rat was even interacting with his lovely daughter. And he knows she’s going to completely ruin Charlie’s reputation.

Alastor, who’d simply watched and listened to Luci, nodded in understand. The King’s worry made sense. Alastor didn’t have children, nor did he really seek to, but he could understand a man’s protectiveness towards his child. He slowly stood and walked over to his boyfriend.

“Listen, love, I understand you completely. Her idea is lunacy, hard to digest when you first hear it, but I think you’re worrying yourself far too much.” He sets his hands on Lucifer’s shoulders. “Your darling Charlie is a strong little devil! She’ll be fine! Her passion and spirit are hard to outmatch. You just need to have a little more faith in the girl. Not to be bitter, but you haven’t exactly been the best father. And that’s coming from me!

"You know she’s a fighter! She can hold her own. One day, she’ll give you something to truly be proud of.”

The radio demon smiled sweetly and gave the king’s shoulder a small comforting squeeze. Luci smiled gratefully in return.

“Thank you, love. Perhaps you’re right… Things just haven’t been that great since I broke it off with Lilith, especially with Charlie being unaware. And then there’s the fact that no one knows we’re together, your reputation, my reputation…”

“Enough, dear, or you’ll get stressed again. Now,” Al places a small, loving kiss on Luci’s forehead. “How about this?”

The deer demon walks over to his blazer and puts it back on.

“Why don’t I go 'under cover’ for you, darling? I can watch over your little hell spawn and make sure things sail smoothly! You can observe from the comfort of your palace while I take care of everything else!”

The sound of that idea made Luci smile widely. “Yes, that sounds perfect! Oh, Alastor, you’re brilliant!”

As Alastor was about to respond, Luci placed a quick, loving kiss on his lips. When Lucifer pulled away, a flushed Alastor was left standing there, like a deer in headlights.

“Well, the interview is about to start soon! You better head out, Bambi!” Luci winked slyly. “Oh, and if you need anything, just talk to me through your microphone!”

Gathering himself and clearing his throat, Al nodded in response and walked to the door. “Well, I’ll see you around, deary! I’ll make sure to keep an eye on your daughter!”

Luci smirked. “OUR daughter~”

Al froze again, coughing like he’d inhaled pure dust.

“That’s *cough* t-that’s kind of a bold statement to make, don’t you think, Luci..?”

The king simply shrugged.

“Perhaps I’m just a dreamer~”

Crowley, entering the bookshop: Hello, angel!

Aziraphale: Hello, dear.

Crowley: *pulls a book off the shelf and lazily flips through it* Ah, yes. Pornography, my favorite!

Aziraphale: ...

Aziraphale: Gabriel, you have less than one minute to explain why you're here and what you've done with my husband.

Gabriel: What gave it away? Didn't I sway my hips enough?

Aziraphale: Yes, plenty. A fine tribute to the genuine article. But one thing you couldn't have fathomed is that Crowley doesn't read.

Gabriel: Damn.

Aziraphale: Clock's ticking...
